Probably everyone who reads my blog already knows that our little miracles were born on Tuesday, June 2nd. My last post left me waiting for something to happen, but accepting the fact that I would be delivering the girls at my scheduled c-section June 3rd. After all of the waiting I decided that it is okay to wait because then I would have my own doctor and things could be organized. Wes and I went to my weekly NST and fluid test Tuesday morning where we found that everything was still looking good. We left the hospital planning to return the next morning at 8:00 a.m. We went home and worked on a few things around the house, planted some flowers and just finalizing details. My mom was making us a nice meal at her house that night and Ash, Craig and family were going to join us. At 5:30 I was sitting in our big chair reading a book while I was waiting to head over to my parents' house. I felt this strange pop and then I started to have really bad cramping. I got up and walked around and just leaned on the counter and swayed back and forth. It was painful but I thought it would pass. So we headed over to my parents' house. When I got there it started to get worse. The cramping was getting stronger and it never let up. Then I started to feel really strong contractions on top of the cramping. I didn't eat anything and I just kept trying to find a comfortable position. I was sweating and throwing up. I was definitely sure something was going on but I really didn't think it was labor because the cramping was not something I expected. I called the doctor and she asked how far apart the contractions were and I said I couldn't tell because it felt like they never stopped. She said to come to the hospital now. Wes had to run home to get our bag and I stayed with my family.
When Wes got back we headed straight to the hospital. Mom followed us in her car. He was driving so fast and that was making me feel even worse. Of course, I wanted him to hurry because I was in so much pain but changing lanes and going around curves was making me throw up even more. It takes 30 minutes to get to the hospital and it was the longest drive of my life. When we got to the hospital at 8:00 p.m. Wes helped me into a wheel chair and we went straight up to labor and delivery. When we got into triage and they started checking me in things got even worse. The doctor on call was not my doctor (her shift started 12 hours later!!!) but she turned out to be wonderful. She checked me and said that I was 4 cm. and 90% effaced. My water broke after she checked me and the pain was so intense! They said they had to get 2 bags of fluid into me through my IV and then we would head to the OR and the babies would be born. I could not believe how fast it was happening. After the fluid was in they took me to the OR and the anesthesiologist gave me my epidural. It was such a strange, but wonderful, feeling as my body started to go numb. They washed my stomach and got everything prepped and then put the curtain up below my chin. They brought Wes in as they were making the first cut. He wanted to see it so he stood up about 4 different times. He saw them pulling Mya out. It was so unreal to me. They said turn your head to the left and there was my beautiful screaming first born daughter, Mya - all 7 pounds, 6 ounces 19 1/2 inches of her. One minute later they said to turn my head again and my sweet little 6 pound, 2 ounce 18 1/2 inch long peanut, Stella was there screaming just as loudly. I was so overwhelmed. It was such an amazing moment that I will never ever forget. Wes went with the girls as they were cleaned up and then taken to the NICU. They went just for transition.
My mom came with me to recovery. It was the weirdest feeling in the world because of all of the hormonal changes my body was shaking uncontrollably and I couldn't move my lower half. They said that I had to be able to move my legs before they would take me to the NICU to see the girls. Wes kept coming back and forth and he was showing me pictures of them because I really only saw them for a split second before they left. They were born at 9:33 and 9:34 and I didn't get to the NICU until 1:00 a.m. I was so out of it for those hours though so it went pretty fast. I got to breastfeed both of them and then they took me to my room. Mya came back with us at 2:00. Stella had to stay until 5:30 because she held her breath and turned "dusky". She only did it once and she was fine but they wanted to monitor her. Once they brought her back the girls stayed with us for the next 4 days. We went home on Saturday, June 6th with our two most prized possessions in the world. Life since then has been amazing. We are tired but we don't even care. I will post pictures soon!!
