Tubes

Today we took Stella to her appointment with her ENT doctor. He evaluated her and said that she has fluid on her left ear and her right ear is clear. She is currently on antibiotics. I say currently but really it has pretty much been straight since Christmas except for when she was getting the Rocephin shots. He said she is a definite candidate for tubes because of her recurrent nature. He explained the procedure and also that he would be recommending the long lasting tubes, which have positives and negatives. The positives are that they are long lasting and probably will do the trick for 3 to 4 years while her ears continue to mature. The negatives can be that they are long lasting (lol) and may not come out on their own. He said he would still recommend them because she is so young and would probably be dealing with ear issues for a while. They gave us a website to visit and password that we would need to log into it that would tell us all about the procedure and what we need to know.

We scheduled the surgery for March 24th. They do all surgeries bright and early at 7:30 in the morning and we have to be at the hospital at 6:00 a.m. for registration! Yikes! We decided that Mya will stay the night at my parent's house so that she can sleep in and have a normal night and morning. My mom will feed her a bottle and then take her to Lisa's at her normal time (7:30). We will probably end up picking her up early that day depending on how Stella is feeling.

They have a new policy called parent pass so Wes and I will be able to be with her while they are prepping her and while the anesthesiologist is putting her to sleep. We will only have to leave the room during the 10 minute procedure so she won't be out of our sight much. They asked if we would be interested in that.......who would say no?????? After the procedure we have to take her to audiology and they will do a quick sound test. She isn't having hearing issues now so it should be no big deal. They gave us wax and explained how to use it for when she swims this summer. All in all, it doesn't sound like that big of a deal and I know that it will make a world of difference for her. I just hope she doesn't get another infection when her antibiotics end next Monday. She will have 9 unmedicated days before her surgery and so far every time she finishes her medicine she gets a fever within 24-36 hours. Fingers crossed this doesn't happen because this was the soonest we could get in for the surgery. We are just so ready for her to be healthy for a long stretch of time. She has adapted and now doesn't act all that cranky when her ear is hurting her. She's such a trooper!

Ah, a light at the end of the tunnel? Feels good, doesn't it? I'm so glad little Stella will finally be feeling better!
